Please be informed that you can climb Kilimanjaro at any time of the year as long as you are physically and mentally fit because climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro doesn’t require any technical expertise like other mountains in the world. The way Kilimanjaro affects a normal person who has no experience in athletics or mountaineering will also affect a very experienced athlete and climber if they are not mentally / psychologically fit and ready to climb the Kilimanjaro.
It is possible to climb Kilimanjaro year-round, however, the best time to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro is when there is a lower possibility of precipitation. The dry seasons are from the beginning of December through the beginning of March, and then from late June through the end of October. These are considered to be the best times to climb in terms of weather, and correspondingly are the busiest months (high season). However, climbing during the wet season is a vastly different experience than climbing during the dry season.
This is the generally expected climate during the different months but mountain weather is known to change rapidly. For more information on Kilimanjaro weather please visit https://www.mountain-forecast.com/peaks/Mount-Kilimanjaro-climbing-routes/forecasts/5895
This is regarded as the best time to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro; being warm and almost devoid of clouds. January, February, and the first half of March are the warmest months, with wonderful clear morning skies and evening, making this a very suitable time to climb, but not considered the best time to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro.
These months are also warm but there may be some rainfall on the lower slopes and bands of clouds may reduce visibility around the forest area.
You can experience the rainy season in April and May, which generally means one pretty heavy thunderstorm every day on Kilimanjaro. However, even that is not guaranteed and it doesn’t last for hours with most of the rain hitting the coast. So although some people want to avoid this, others embrace it, as rain equates with more solitary slopes
June, July, and August- are the cold months in Tanzania. Although it’s still warm during the day, nights are very cold. Can become very cold at night but in return, the sky is usually completely clear above 3,000m. For that beautiful sunrise, this is the best month to do your climb. This is also regarded as the best time to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro because of the clear sky.
Are perhaps the best months for climbers due to steadily increasing temperatures and low rainfall. August and September are peak seasons for avoiding busy trails. September is a little quieter and also warmer than August. October is usually a great time for climbing, getting in just before the rains do, but when there are lesser crowds.
There is another short rainy season from November to December, although the showers are short but quite refreshing too. Rains are possible in the afternoon and there can be heavy snow showers towards the summit but night and early morning bring excellent visibility
